Academic Overview
Building Skilled Professionals for Industry and Sustainable Development
Mission
To train skilled workforce for industry through quality-oriented, demand-driven vocational and entrepreneurship training for job creation and sustainable livelihood.
Vision
To become a first-class vocational TVET provider in Ghana and beyond.
Akaal Skills Development Academy (ASDA), formerly known as Akaal Fashion College, is a leading Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution committed to developing industry-ready professionals through practical, competency-based education. The Academy was established in 2017 as a strategic initiative of Akaal Dékor Company Limited, a textile and garment manufacturing company founded in 1998.
The establishment of the Academy was driven by the growing need to bridge the gap between vocational training and industry demands by producing highly skilled labour to support both Akaal Dékor Limited and Ghana’s expanding fashion and technical industries. Recognizing the increasing demand for technical and vocational skills across multiple sectors, the institution underwent a strategic transformation in July 2020 and was officially renamed Akaal Skills Development Academy (ASDA). This transition marked the expansion of the Academy’s academic portfolio beyond fashion and garment training to include programmes in Plumbing and Electrical Technology, thereby creating broader opportunities for both male and female learners. ASDA is strategically located at Kwamo, off the Kumasi–Accra Road, adjacent to Kwamo Executive Lodge, providing accessible vocational education within the Ashanti Region and beyond.
Accreditation & Academic Excellence
In 2018, Akaal Skills Development Academy was officially registered with the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (CTVET) as an accredited training provider. In the same year, the institution secured a five-year programme accreditation to deliver Garment Construction and Fashion programmes using the Competency-Based Training (CBT) approach. The Academy’s commitment to practical, industry-led education continues to shape its academic structure and programme delivery. In 2021, ASDA expanded its technical education offering by introducing Plumbing and Electrical programmes in response to Ghana’s increasing demand for skilled technical professionals. This expansion further strengthened the institution’s role in contributing to national workforce development and youth employment. To support this growth, the Academy developed a comprehensive Five-Year Strategic Plan (2022–2026) aimed at enhancing the implementation of Competency-Based Training across all technical disciplines. The strategic plan provides a framework for effective programme delivery, academic planning, budgeting, monitoring, and continuous improvement of training standards.
